Challenge

There were multiple challenges that were faced by Society

1.    Enterprise Suite Integration: Integration of Enterprise Suites like Adobe Livecycle Enterprise Services with the existing applications.

2.    Rating Engine: Analysis and Design of the insurance rating engine and its testing components.

3.    Performance Analysis: Performance Analysis and Critical Incident Resolution across the organization.

Solution

1.    Enterprise Suite Integration: Xorbix Technologies, Inc., worked with the development of APIs to integrate the data residing in multiple databases and enable reporting in the PDF format. Society already had purchased the Adobe Lovecycle Product and wanted that to be used to generate reports in PDF format. The solution was to generate XML from the database using queries and passing that to an XDP template. This API is generic so that it can be used by any application. The reports were flattened using the Output Services which gave a static XML output that were easily uploaded to their Report Deployment Application.

2.    Rating Engine: Xorbix Technologies, Inc., analyzed the existing application and the data structures. We conducted an AS-IS TO-BE diagrams with a GAP analysis. This helped in envisioning the application roadmap. Xorbix worked on building the Math Engine which is a generic engine used for math computations and has the capability to add custom functions when required. The next step was to extract all formulas and factors required by the rating engine to know the scope of the application. The rating engine is completely database driven. The factor and formula changes can be effective dated for future rates. 

Once the design and development of the Rating Engine was in progress, we started developing a mapping application which mapped the objects in the Policy Administration System to the existing system. This helped in automated comparison of the quotes generated by the two systems thus reducing testing time.

The solution also provided a Proposal Wizard which helped in generating a proposal once the quotes have been rated. This was done with the help of Adobe Livecycle Enterprise Services for generating PDF reports on the fly.

3.    Performance Analysis: Xorbix Technologies, Inc., setup the performance monitoring toolset using .Net analysis tools like ANTS performance profiler to check for pieces of code that were creating issues. The code was analyzed and a list of suggestions were provided which included refactoring pieces of code, configuration of the web servers, adjusting the hardware for better performance of the applications. We were also involved in resolving complicated critical issues in third party application suites for the benefit of the processes at the client.

Impact

1.    Enterprise Suite Integration:

• Better understanding and application of the suite for PDF generation.
• Ease of development for other resources on the team thus a reduction in cost and time to implement a solution.
• Standards defined for integration of the suite with the legacy applications with the API provided.

2.    Rating Engine:

• Analysis helped in the understanding of the scope and degree of effort required. It also helped in understanding the detail level of testing required for refactoring.
• The application reduced the time it takes for the agents to submit quotes and provides a ready interface to generate proposals.
• The rating engine is closer to the Policy Administration system rating which saves time in issuing the policy.

 3.    Performance Analysis:

• Understanding of the issues the underlay in the application developed earlier.
• Enhanced perception of the application by the users who were facing difficulty with the performance issues.
